Frontend Performance Modernisation
Improved page speed, reduced bundle size, and introduced cleaner rendering boundaries across a complex commerce frontend application.
Client Challenge
A growing e-commerce brand was experiencing declining conversion rates. Page load times had gradually increased as new features were added, and the frontend bundle had grown beyond sustainable limits without clear ownership of performance.
Technical Problem
The application had accumulated significant technical debt: large monolithic bundles with no code splitting, excessive third-party scripts with no loading strategy, unoptimised images, inefficient re-renders in React, and no performance monitoring to track regressions.
Approach
FlyFox conducted a thorough performance audit using Lighthouse, WebPageTest, and bundle analysis tools. We identified the highest-impact issues and created a phased remediation plan that could be delivered alongside ongoing feature work, minimising disruption to the business.
Architecture & Implementation
We implemented route-based code splitting, lazy-loaded below-the-fold components, optimised third-party script loading with strategic deferral and async patterns, introduced image optimisation pipelines with modern formats, added a performance budgets CI check, and implemented Core Web Vitals monitoring with alerting for regressions. Each change was measured against baseline metrics to validate improvement.
